Let's start.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:05:28 PM)
First I want to welcome you all to Accepted.com's Consortium for the Graduate Study of Management Chat.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:05:35 PM)
I also want to welcome our special guests for this evening:

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:06:57 PM)
I also want to thank Paul Bodine and Cindy Tokumitsu for joining us this evening.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:07:36 PM)
We encourage dialogue and discussion, but I would like to suggest a structure to make it easier to follow the threads of conversation. So here is the protocol:

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:07:44 PM)
We will post questions and answers to the chat. If you have a question on that material, please type a "?" and then your question. Our guests, other participants, or I will reply. If one of you wants to comment on the current topic, please jump right in. If you want to start a different topic, please type "?".

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:07:52 PM)
If your question or comment relates to a particular school or is directed at a particular person, please be sure to include the individual's name in your question.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:08:13 PM)
Also, since we really have a full house this evening, I want to suggest that if you see 3 unanswered questions on the screen, you wait to post.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:08:22 PM)
Final request: We would like to avoid the brief summary of qualifications (or even the long laundry list) followed by the question, "Can I qualify?" Or "What are my chances?" This isn't the forum for that kind of analysis.

Gerard E (ID=102) (Dec 10, 2001 9:08:31 PM)
? What advice can you give a participant that is interested in being a CGSM fellow.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:08:52 PM)
Other than that limitation, this is your chance to ask questions about the Consortium and these schools' program and admissions policies. But I would like to take advantage of my position as host and ask the first questions.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:07 PM)
G - first thing is to submit a competitive application

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:11 PM)
? for CGSM rep - Since a separate application is required for Berkeley how are my rankings conveyed to them

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:17 PM)
g- start your research on schools EARLY

eluff (ID=30) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:24 PM)
Hello

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:27 PM)
research

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:31 PM)
How can Consortium applicants distinguish themselves from other applicants and each other?

Jorge (ID=55) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:39 PM)
My question is for NYU - How has Sept 13th affected recruiting at NYU?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:09:56 PM)
Present yourself fully, making sure both the CGSM application and the member schools know you who you are.

Gerard E (ID=102) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:02 PM)
? A-What makes a competitive app?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:02 PM)
L - I think it is the same for any applicant - do your research, tell your story

Felipe (ID=100) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:03 PM)
do I have to take the GMAT before the Jan 15 dateline

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:16 PM)
?What is an acceptable range in GMAT scores

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:27 PM)
L - have a good sense of what you want from an MBA, and be sure to convey that well in your essays

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:29 PM)
Research your schools and programs of interest. Focus on what qualities you can bring to the program

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:10:55 PM)
? for the schools that require separate applications...how are rankings conveyed to you and when

eluff (ID=30) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:00 PM)
Does anyone have the dates got the GMATs?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:12 PM)
CGSM applicants have the same charge as any b-school applicant. They are competing for admission to some of the globe's most desirable schools, and they are competing for a very prestigious fellowship.

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:19 PM)
I'm an older prospective student with a weak quant. background and weak GMAT scores. How would it look to schools if I quit work to brush up on my quant. skills? I interested in being as competitive as possible, but I 'm not getting any younger either. What do you think?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:41 PM)
E - can you take some quant classes at night rather than stopping work?

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:52 PM)
Jorge, it is my understanding that NYU has not been adversely affected, in terms of the number of applicants at NYU. I don't have much more information other than that, but I'm sure someone in admissions could confirm this. Overall, there is such a wonderful feeling of community at NY and Stern in particular... I'm thrilled to be part of this environment.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:56 PM)
Charlotta-Each school typically will provide you their entering class profile, including average GMAT scores. Remember that averages are averages, some scores will be higher, some lower.

bigcheese (ID=116) (Dec 10, 2001 9:11:58 PM)
Who makes the underlying decision on the fellowship award, the school or the consortium?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:06 PM)
E - we would want to see you being able to handle the rigor while handling demands of other aspects of your life

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:13 PM)
B -the school

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:18 PM)
EZ consider taking classes while working. Also focus on your other talents in the essays

VA (ID=122) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:23 PM)
? Can someone explain why the Consortium site is not updated with the correct application status information.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:29 PM)
Big Cheese- The schools each select their own fellowship recipients.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:33 PM)
Sarah, at the Stern chat Julia Min said that applications at Stern were up 30% at first round.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:33 PM)
big cheese - the schools award the fellowships

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:36 PM)
where can the application status be found on the site?

kb (ID=70) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:44 PM)
? Ms. Jones - how many applications were received for the first deadline?

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:46 PM)
?Kris, can you tell us about the MAP and IMAP program? How difficult is it to get into the IMAP?

yusaydat (ID=93) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:50 PM)
VA-we add more information to the site daily.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:55 PM)
Let's hold the questions a minute.

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:55 PM)
Thanks , gang!

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:12:57 PM)
Kb

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:10 PM)
L - I can talk more about UMBS offline, but about 80 students a yr do IMAP - probably about 140 apply for it

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:12 PM)
kb 235

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:22 PM)
? to admissions people: I got laid off while working on my consortium app, so my resume work experience stops at 10/01. I have since been re-hired, but submitted my apps before landing my present job. how does that factor into the review process?

Memsahib2003 (ID=69) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:28 PM)
EzRawlins: I was in the same boat when I applied - don't quit your job, bring out other traits in your app that may help strengthen your quant position

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:31 PM)
(sorry Linda, I submitted before I saw that)

vbird (ID=84) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:31 PM)
? Is there an advantage in applying to only 1 consortium school? Does it "look better" to the AdComm?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:44 PM)
?I am in an accelerated program at work, Management trainee. Question is do you think 2 years of work experience would be sufficient with this type of program?

DFB (ID=115) (Dec 10, 2001 9:13:57 PM)
Assuming that we are applying to a school. through the Consortium, which application deadline should we be following? Those presented by the schools or the 1/15 date for the Consortium?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:03 PM)
Hi Ayesha- you can certainly contact your schools and provide an update either by e-mail or fax.

Darryl (ID=117) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:15 PM)
Sherry will UNC accept the recommendation form found in the Consortium application?

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:17 PM)
Ayesha you have the chance to explain your situation in the essay or during an interview.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:23 PM)
A - I would hope you gave some explanation in your app about what you were doing in the meantime. If you status

VA (ID=122) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:26 PM)
yusaydat - if the Consortium finds that something in my application is missing, does that mean I will not make the first round deadline (since you're mailing applications starting on Monday). will I have time to follow up on the missing item?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:32 PM)
UNC does not receive the common CGSM application. We are reliant on candidates to tell us if they are also applying for CGSM fellowship. We make admission decision irrespective to what your CGSM school fellowship preference ranking may be. In the spring, before time to match CGSM fellowships with admitted applicants, we will become aware of those who have indicated an interest in receiving CGSM fellowship to UNC.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:40 PM)
A - has changed, I would like to find out about it (if you applied to UMBS) so write to us directly

yusaydat (ID=93) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:40 PM)
?Linda, what do you want us to do?

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:41 PM)
jim: I submitted by 12/1, so do you suggest a letter and an updated resume? I start my new position on 12/17

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:14:41 PM)
can anyone answer my question regarding school rankings

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:06 PM)
Ayesha- That would be fine!

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:06 PM)
Yusaydat, type a ? when you want to post and I will call on you.

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:16 PM)
Did someone answer the question regarding the # of CGSM apps received by the 12/1 deadline?

yusaydat (ID=93) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:25 PM)
thanks

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:33 PM)
VA - you should have had it all in by the deadline, but if not, you should focus on getting it complete as soon as possible.

eluff (ID=30) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:37 PM)
?Looking for GMAT testing date?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:39 PM)
?Will GMAT scores count after the deadline, in cases where some people want/need to retake it?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:41 PM)
gabe the answer is 235

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:54 PM)
Thanks Barbara.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:57 PM)
jim: I know that IU only has an email address listed in the back of the consortium app, will that be sufficient?

yusaydat (ID=93) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:59 PM)
?eluff, explain

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:15:59 PM)
Barbara is that more or less than last year at this time?

supanu (ID=74) (Dec 10, 2001 9:16:05 PM)
kris_umbs - I submitted an optional essay for the 12/01 deadline, how do you suggest I make sure it was received ok?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:16:32 PM)
Ayesha- you can send it to mbaoffice@indiana.edu or to me at jholmen@indiana.edu

toure (ID=119) (Dec 10, 2001 9:16:32 PM)
Barbara- Are the 235 apps significantly higher than last year?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:16:38 PM)
S - you can send an email to our office umbsmba@umich.edu, but it likely arrived fine

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:17 PM)
thanks @ Jim

rrr (ID=110) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:18 PM)
?Can someone clarify the meaning of "Number of Direct Reports" within the area of "Employment History" on the Consortium Application?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:19 PM)
Linda that's more by approximately 75 apps.

bigcheese (ID=116) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:27 PM)
If I am in the home town of the consortium, would it benefit me to set up an interview with you or just go to the school?

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:28 PM)
Barbara - Will schools such as Berkeley who do not receive the consortium application be told where a candidate ranked a particular school?

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:29 PM)
Thank you.

kb (ID=70) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:52 PM)
? Ms. Jones - will the number of fellowships be greater or lower than last year (~310, I think it was)

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:17:59 PM)
Darryl, I'm sorry that UNC cannot receive anything from CGSM. It is important for your recommenders to answer the questions we ask on the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Application. A common letter attached to our form is fine, however.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:05 PM)
?What percentage of applications do you expect to reward

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:11 PM)
? Barbara, if I want to interview with each individual school, would that delay my Consortium application? (I completed consortium interview with UNC.)

VA (ID=122) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:15 PM)
? This is directed to any admin. reps. How do you look upon an applicant who has not sent you the school specific essay?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:29 PM)
Charlotta- In most cases, to meet a deadline your application should be complete by that deadline. If you haven't taken the GMAT, or want us to hold your application until you retake the deadline, your application will be considered for a later deadline when it is complete.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:42 PM)
Let's hold the questions. Right now we have questions from rrr, djdotcom, kb, Charlotta, luis 72 and VA.

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:44 PM)
djdotcom not until after you have been admitted and we meet with all the schools in March

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:44 PM)
I have a few questions. I am currently obtaining a Masters in Information Technology. does that carry as much weight as the typical MBA?

Jorge (ID=55) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:48 PM)
Housing question for NYU - I would be looking for affordable housing for my wife and two young children - anything within an hour's commute from the city?

yusaydat (ID=93) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:51 PM)
bigcheese-we do not interview in our office. feel free to interview with WU

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:18:56 PM)
VA - this is a new recommendation this year - it really helps in giving a sense of why you like a particular school, but I wouldn't expect to receive it from everyone

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:15 PM)
Jorge,

Darryl (ID=117) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:21 PM)
Sherry-Does UNC give preference to early applicants versus applicants that apply in the final round?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:26 PM)
?How do you view an applicant not writing the optional essay?

bigcheese (ID=116) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:31 PM)
Due to the economy, are you finding a record number of applicants this year? If so, would it be best to delay your application for the following semester?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:37 PM)
Kim - you will need to explain in your app why you need an MBA

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:39 PM)
Hold your fire please.

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:40 PM)
that's pretty flexible...I would imagine that with a one hour commute you s/b able to find something affordable.

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:19:58 PM)
Barbara, I saw that my optional essay #4 in the CGSM had a problem during upload and last night I sent an e-mail with said essay attached to Jackie Ogden. Will it be sent to the schools in my CGSM app?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:04 PM)
luis72 the interview alone will not hold up the application.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:07 PM)
C - only write the optional essay if you have something to say - something that

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:09 PM)
Also, if you are directing your question s to a particular person, please indicate to whom.

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:10 PM)
dj- it is likely that the schools that do not receive the common application will not know your preference rating until time for the fellowship decisions to be made - early March. There may be some exceptions.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:19 PM)
didn't come up in the rest of the app, any anomalies, etc.

Kevin (ID=95) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:19 PM)
?Is there any benefit to being a minority in this year's MBA applicant pool?

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:27 PM)
jim: along the lines of updating my resume, since I technically do not start until next Monday, is it best to just outline my responsibilities and give a more thorough explanation in my cover letter?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:28 PM)
gabe yes

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:32 PM)
thank you

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:42 PM)
explanation of my situation I mean @ jim

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:43 PM)
(but not the answer I wanted :-) )

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:53 PM)
?How many years of work experience do you truly recommend?

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:20:58 PM)
?In general, I've been told that most MBA programs do not accept students without 2-5 years full time experience. However, during undergrad (I'll graduate in 6/02) I've held 5 full time internships with a lot of experience gained from each. Would you recommend that I apply, despite the general consensus?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:02 PM)
K - I am not sure what you are getting at. Clearly we look for diversity in any forms, but that is not limited to race.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:04 PM)
Ayesha- That would be fine.

7empty (ID=120) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:04 PM)
Are there any Native American CGSM graduates that you can refer to me to talk about their experience?

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:09 PM)
I am not sure if I do? I think the MBA is more business oriented where as Information Tech is more technical. I am also doing public Management for the business end of things.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:18 PM)
Charlotta, most schools would like at least 2 years experience

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:23 PM)
Thanks again, Barbara.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:36 PM)
charlotta - it varies from school to school, but we recommend at least 2 or 3 years

Nelson (ID=131) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:39 PM)
Barbara, I have to retake the GMAT, However, I already had the interview with the consortium member, I am retaking the GMAT on Jan 11 and I had all the other documents ready. am I still on time for the Jan date line?

kclotman (ID=91) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:44 PM)
? Barbara: If we submitted for the early deadline, when should we be concerned if we haven't heard back from CGSM or received a card in the mail?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:46 PM)
Kim - you should do some informational interviews with folks that work in the area you are interested in to gauge whether you feel prepared enough without the MBA

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:21:53 PM)
darryl- UNC does not necessarily reward earlier applicants. Just be careful not to wait too late. Sometimes applicants in our last round find that the yield of earlier admitted applicants has exceeded forecasts, and therefore, space is not available.

? Barbara, if I want to interview with each school I am applying to would that delay my application? I already interviewed with UNC (that was also my consortium interview).

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:22:44 PM)
Kevin- being a minority is neither a plus or minus. You have to distinguish yourself in the pool, same as all applicants.

?Are there any Michigan grads here?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:22:45 PM)
charlotta - it can be good, depending on the impact you've made in that time

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:23:03 PM)
AdComm members, I've heard from MBA students that sometimes you'll let students know

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:23:08 PM)
Thanks, Laurie. ?Do you think it has more of an advantage?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:23:09 PM)

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:25:04 PM)
Kris- I think the MBA is the status quo and no one even considers the other degrees available. I think for information systems its better because you have more technical experience. I will start talking to people. But everyone that I know has an MBA.

ChiGuy (ID=123) (Dec 10, 2001 9:25:20 PM)

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:25:52 PM)
ChiGuy, we have 15 CGSM students, 3 first years are fellows. That number can be higher this fall

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:02 PM)
Luis72 the interview will not delay sending your application to schools.

Thanks.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:14 PM)
Sarah, yes. This is going so fast, I thought that you indicated that you were a Michigan grad

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:26 PM)
Let's hold the questions. Lion33 has posed a question to all guests and there are a number of other questions on the floor/screen.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:31 PM)
A - I would like to know what you plan to do with your time now - volunteering, etc.

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:41 PM)
Ms. Jones, I did great in my quantitative courses during my masters degree but not so well in my BA, should I enclose my quantitative courses from the masters in my consortium application? (at least for the same courses that I took during my BA)?

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:50 PM)
Yes, Michigan undergrad...but the undergrad b-school was structured similarly to the grad school program.

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:53 PM)
darryl- specific industry experience can be one of the factors that distinguishes an applicant. Our goal, like all b-schools, is to enroll a class where there will be people with expertise from many segments of biz, life and the world. Make sure you sell that experience as something that makes you worthwhile to your classmates.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:56 PM)
Kris: u mean right now or in my letter to the schools?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:26:57 PM)
lion33 - we have a number of military candidates and they often excel in leadership experiences

toure (ID=119) (Dec 10, 2001 9:27:01 PM)
Kris- So for reapps, the additional recommendation probably holds the most weight?

Michelle Miller (ID=125) (Dec 10, 2001 9:27:16 PM)
? Kris, I was at the Upclose weekend and would like to contact a Hispanic women that was on the student panel. I do not remember her name. Is there anyway I could find a list of those who participated that weekend. I would like to talk to her more about Michigan.

?Sarah, how long did you wait before going to NYU for MBA

melanie (ID=67) (Dec 10, 2001 9:27:27 PM)
Betsy? I am from PR and English is our second language. I have experienced some difficulty with the Verbal section of the GMAT. It has impacted negatively my GMAT scores. I understand I meet all other requirements for UWM school admission. Will my GMAT score affect my chances to UWM?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:27:30 PM)
T - no I would say your telling us what you have been doing this past year and how that has made you a stronger reapp is very crucial.

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:27:33 PM)
ezrawlins chances are you will make the cut. We give the date of the 11th to insure that we will receive your score report in plenty of time.

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:27:59 PM)

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:28:06 PM)

Melanie, having an interview is helpful and your ability to communicate in person with us.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:28:33 PM)
tg28-You should definitely provide info about quant courses taken through your graduate program. You'll need to provide transcripts from both undergrad and graduate programs.

? Barbara, have many fellowships do you anticipate this year?

AY101 (ID=111) (Dec 10, 2001 9:29:47 PM)
Laurie, since you can't interview with CMU before you turn in your application will CMU be interviewing CGSM students, or will you just use our interview from the CGSM application

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:29:51 PM)
kclotman - good question. Think of it this way. Fellowships are a second cut - even more selective than admission. You have to be incredible to be admitted. Then, we try to find the cream of this already wonderful crop for fellowship. Remember, the CGSM Award is a MERIT fellowship.

melanie (ID=67) (Dec 10, 2001 9:29:52 PM)
Betsy? My husband and I interviewed with Lisa Urban on Nov. 30, 2001 and her feedback was positive.

R - no, it is more so the impact you had in the role

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:31 PM)
?Kris, are there any students with spouses and children I could speak to? I would love to hear about their experiences at UMBS

ChiGuy (ID=123) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:33 PM)

How are things looking for Native Americans?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:39 PM)

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:47 PM)
Charlotta: do you mind if I get your email address afterwards?

Jorge (ID=143) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:52 PM)
Sorry, NYU I got disconnected. But, I did get your message about contacting you about the apartment. $3,600?! Wow! Does that include maid service?

luis (ID=141) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:54 PM)
Do all schools have the same number of fellowships available?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:30:56 PM)
Lion33 its hard to say at this point but certainly no less than last year. We offered 315 last year.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:06 PM)
The transcript from the UMBS chat is online.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:12 PM)
chiguy - we definitely hope to see Consortium candidates at our Challenge Weekend in January!

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:26 PM)
L - sure thing. I can connect you with some of our current clan. Contact me at knebel@umich.edu and I can help you with that. Same for Michelle re: Darys

melanie (ID=67) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:29 PM)
Betsy? Are you a current student or faculty staff?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:37 PM)
luis the number of fellowships vary from school to school.

rebecca (ID=62) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:43 PM)
?what is the average age of applicants admitted last year?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:45 PM)
lion 33- we have wonderful ex-military (and current military) students in our program each year. Critical is making the adm committee see that you can make the transition from military success to non-military when/if necessary

supanu (ID=74) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:49 PM)
my manager of two years recently retired, his recommendation should be ok... right? note: no business card!

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:52 PM)
Steff, that will be fine. How do you want me to get it to you? Where are you from?

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:54 PM)
Melanie, I am a staff member who works specifically with career services.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:54 PM)
Luis-not all schools have the same number of fellowships. The majority of each school's fellowships are funded by the schools themselves, which is why we have different numbers of fellowships.

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:31:57 PM)
Jorge... no, but there are 4 of us and for the space & location it's reasonable. Plus there are broker fees sometimes. I'm sure you could find something more affordable.

Michelle Miller (ID=125) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:02 PM)
Okay Kris, thank you.

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:07 PM)
thanks, Barbara & Sherry.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:09 PM)
Thanks, Sarah, I will contact you!

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:19 PM)
My work experience is mainly in Public Policy, since I have a Masters Degree in Public Policy, is that experience as valuable as experience from business in general when assessing the application?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:47 PM)
?With the downturn in the economy, how has that impacted the number of applications so far?

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:49 PM)
tg28, professional experience is always good.

ChiGuy (ID=123) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:53 PM)
Barbara - Are there any plans to add additional schools to the CGSM roster next year?

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:32:56 PM)
Barbara: One of the essay questions asks that you describe a professional accomplishment, what if your work experience hasn't been extensive. What should we do?

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:02 PM)
thank you Betsy

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:05 PM)

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:06 PM)
So far applications seem to be up

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:06 PM)
Charlotta: I'm from NY

colombiansupremo (ID=127) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:15 PM)
Barbara - What are the odds that an applicant who gets admitted to his/her first choice school would be awarded the fellowship? Are these chances enhanced if the person applies early? Thank you.

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:15 PM)
?Barbara, what does your typical fellow "look" like?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:17 PM)
rebecca - at CMU average age is about 28 when students joined our program this year.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:19 PM)
tg28, you must show the schools your transferable skills and communicate your leadership and team work abilities.

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:33:29 PM)
Charlotta: and I want to apply to Michigan and Emory.

chiguy there are no plans at this time to add schools next year.

Hi

Barbara, I felt that I could improve my GMAT score by taking it one more time, which I will do on Wed. After that my application will be complete. If I send out the app this weekend will it sit in the CGSM office until the rest of the Jan. 15 apps are received.

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:15 PM)

Sherry- this is probably a silly question that you get all the time- but I'll ask it anyway. On paper, UNC is my top choice, but could my wife find a life in Chapel Hill? She's a lawyer with a great skill set, but I'm afraid she'll divorce me if I move her to Chapel Hill.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:44 PM)
Lion33- each school selects their own fellows, so there is no "typical" fellow, although they are all talented, motivated MBA candidates with great potential.

rebecca (ID=62) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:45 PM)
thank you

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:45 PM)
Sarah-

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:45 PM)
mine is also "blank"

Flantos (ID=145) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:49 PM)
Barbara, is it too late to start applying? I have only recently found out about consortium and made my mind up to pursue it.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:57 PM)
rebecca - not as long as you can demonstrate your leadership and achievements

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:34:59 PM)
Sarah-Thanks a lot.

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:08 PM)
thanks, Jim

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:11 PM)
Ms. Jones, sorry If this question was posted before, how many applicants is expecting consortium for this year?

luis (ID=141) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:22 PM)
Jim and Barbara thanks for your reply. Is there anyone from Berkeley on the chat? Or does anyone know how many Consortium students get accepted at Haas?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:24 PM)
?Downturn in the economy......number applications received so far?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:34 PM)
rebecca - many schools like to see at least 2-3 years experience, age isn't the factor and experience is

rebecca (ID=62) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:44 PM)
ok

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:44 PM)
? adcomms: I have been researching scholarships, and some of the scholarships I have found e.g. Datatel Scholars require the SCHOOL to submit the app. how do I handle this since I have not yet been admitted anywhere?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:35:47 PM)
steff this question is better answered by the schools to which you are applying. The Consortium does not participate in the admission decision. I would suggest that you contact the admissions people at your schools of choice.

djdotcom (ID=81) (Dec 10, 2001 9:36:14 PM)
Any Haas adcomm out there?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:36:21 PM)
EzRawlins - Have you visited Chapel Hill. Most people don't want to leave. I'm happy to have some partners of current students contact your wife. Email me at the office at: sherry_wallace@unc.edu.

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:36:24 PM)
thank you will do

toure (ID=119) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:11 PM)
barbara- do you expect to award the same number of scholarships this year?

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:14 PM)
Any questions for Jim_Indiana?

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:14 PM)
Laurie- Is it too late to pursue applying for the Spring semester and I have not even taken the GMATS?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:45 PM)
?What is the outlook on accepted applications right now? Is it more of an advantage to apply for early decision rather than late?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:49 PM)
Kim - we only start in Fall semester and it is not too late to apply.

melanie (ID=67) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:50 PM)
Betsy? I am scheduled to retake the GMAT on Dec. 27. if I am still not satisfied with my score should I schedule to retake it and send the scores directly to UWM even after the CGSM deadline of Jan. 15?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:37:53 PM)
Flantos if you feel that you can put together a quality application by January 15, it is not too late. Remember, you have to take the GMAT if you have not already done so as well as gather letters of recommendation, etc. It is not impossible, but you want to make certain that your application is competitive.

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:00 PM)
Regarding employers, I used references from my prior employer because I had been with my current one for only 4 months when it was time to apply. When the AdComm looks at my resume/CGSM app, will they realize that?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:07 PM)
c - it is an app by app process. I don't see a big difference in Dec 1 vs. Jan 15

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:24 PM)
I haven't taken the GMAT either, but I think is ok as far as you take it before Jan 1st

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:27 PM)
Any questions for Keith_USC?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:30 PM)
Thanks Kris.

kb (ID=70) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:32 PM)
? Barbara, will the consortium be adding schools next year? Are you still in "expansion mode?"

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:35 PM)
melanie, I would send your GMAT scores to all schools in which you applied.

Ann (ID=107) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:38 PM)
? Jim Indiana Univ., I'm not sure if I am still in your queue, but will it be okay if I submit my CGSM IU essay after 1/15? I will not be able to visit IU before then.

Flantos (ID=145) (Dec 10, 2001 9:38:56 PM)
Thanks Barbara

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:03 PM)
Thanks Laurie-that gives me time to really think about my decision. I am really confused. Do you think that I can gain the same technical skills in an MBA program?

Nelson (ID=131) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:11 PM)
Barbara, I took the GMAT but it was not good, I also did the interview and it went well, Can I wait until Jan 11(where I am taking the GMAT again) to apply or should I apply now ?

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:13 PM)
Sherry- I have not. I live in NYC (which is not an excuse) I'll Email you at work. I did meet a Chapel Hill alum that really blew me away with his enthusiasm for the school.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:14 PM)
melanie, after the deadline date if you take it again at the end of January.

jeff (ID=130) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:15 PM)
?CGSM: Considering the Haas application must be submitted by Dec.14, must the CGSM application also arrive before the January deadline?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:16 PM)
Ann-that should be fine. Just try to get it to us by the end of the month.

rebecca (ID=62) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:17 PM)
that is my question too

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:29 PM)
All of you - please keep in mind that the number of CGSM applications should not be a huge concern to you. You are competing for admission within each school's entire applicant pool. You are not just competing against other CGSM applicants. For the fellowship, yes, the pool is other CGSM applicants, but again, it is driven by the individual school's pool.

rebecca (ID=62) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:29 PM)
about the technical experience

Darryl (ID=117) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:44 PM)
This question is for the entire board. Do you group applicants based on similar backgrounds and then rate the applicant? For example, will you compare engineers with engineers... etc...

Ann (ID=107) (Dec 10, 2001 9:39:45 PM)
Thanks, Jim!

Traci (ID=140) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:00 PM)
Good question Darryl!!!

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:00 PM)
D - you give us too much credit - it is really app by app.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:08 PM)
Kim...it is possible to build your tech skills as much as you want, while building your business leadership skills by choosing electives that interest you.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:14 PM)
?Is there any way we can call the the Consortium to get feedback from our interviews?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:18 PM)
ay101 we will ship your application as soon as we process it

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:23 PM)
Darryl, it is based on each school and their app pool

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:42 PM)
? for all adcomm - I'm interested in pursuing an MBA with an International Business focus... however I don't have strong foreign language skills (I realized too late in college what I wanted to do, and didn't have time to take the courses). Are any MBA programs flexible enough where I can learn another language while there?

kim212 (ID=133) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:56 PM)
Thanks. Is there anyway that I can contact you for more questions?

kclotman (ID=91) (Dec 10, 2001 9:40:59 PM)
? Jim - You once mentioned that attending minority students weekends was a sign of keen interest in the school (as does submitting optional essays). Do you match up weekend participants to students who are applying?

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:01 PM)
? Kris - what is UMBS doing to maintain/improve the quality of its MBA program?

Yrunga (ID=108) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:09 PM)
Jim_Indiana - I met you the weekend of the Minority event. You drew a great map of campus for me :) My question is about GMAT score. I know you look at the application as a whole, but how much does your score truly affect your ability to be admitted?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:10 PM)
Q - it might be tough to learn something from scratch, but there are opportunities to work on your language.

Marcus (ID=72) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:14 PM)
Keith: I'm interest in USC (entrepreneurship and management). Should I set up a second interview with USC?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:16 PM)
Qiana - we offer 4 languages as electives in the MBA program.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:19 PM)
Qiana, our program has elective courses where you can add language skills...

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:25 PM)
ez- I have found that New Yorkers become Chapel Hill's biggest devotees. We are a wonderful place in which to spend 2 years, regardless of where you want to be long term. I look forward to hearing from you.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:42 PM)
we also offer classes on "business" level languages

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:51 PM)
L - we are constantly reviewing our offerings and making changes based on input from the community

ChiGuy (ID=123) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:52 PM)
Adcom - Have any students been accepted into your program who have ranked it other than 1 or 2?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:41:57 PM)
Kclotman-When we review applications we certainly know who attended our weekend (just as we know about others who may have expressed interest in other ways).

melanie (ID=67) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:00 PM)
Barbara? One of my references was filled by a former work colleague and her contact information has changed. Should I send the new information and how? Email?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:04 PM)
Nelson you can send your application now and let us know that you want it held until we get your 1/11 GMAT

Nelson (ID=131) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:33 PM)
Thanks, Barbara

toure (ID=119) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:41 PM)
Jim- how is the number of consortium scholarships awarded at each school determined?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:46 PM)
melanie email that information to olden@cgsm.org .

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:55 PM)
Betsy - is UWM having any visitation programs soon? I have family in Milwaukee, so it'd be easy for me to come up there for one, if applicable.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:42:55 PM)
?jim: I submitted my optional essay via email, but never received a confirmation of receipt. figuring that the office is extremely busy, at what point would it be good to check and see if that was received?

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:07 PM)
Barbara, I'm a little confused, if I'm taking the GMAT on December 19th, is it ok to send the whole application before Jan 15th or do you recommend sending it before?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:20 PM)
?do you suggest to apply via e-mail, or just mail it off?

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:24 PM)
Qiana, from a student's perspective, this may be a very difficult task... between studying, job search, and socializing there's not a lot of time left over... but nothing's impossible. There really is A LOT to do... group meetings, club activities, researching companies you want to work for... the list goes on.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:26 PM)
Qiana, we welcome visits year round and will work with your schedule and when you are in town...

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:38 PM)
darryl -at UNC, we don't have such a system. I will say, however, that experience teaches us how to compare diff backgrounds without doing it in such a formal way as you've described

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:44 PM)
please feel free to e-mail me at ekacizak@bus.wisc.edu to set up a visit

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:46 PM)
?How can we get the feedback that we received from the interviews?

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:43:50 PM)
AdComm - regarding TOEFL. If an applicant gets a verbal score of 32+ in the GMAT even though English is his/her 2nd language. Is the TOEFL needed?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:06 PM)
?How much are the interviews with the consortium weighed?

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:27 PM)
? to all admissions directors: I have not been able to visit all of the schools I am applying to because of time and money constraints. How else can I show my interest and compete with prospective students who visited you?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:29 PM)
C - you won't get specific feedback on your interview performance

Jeff Reid (ID=132) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:29 PM)
How much is the GMAT weighed in the app process?

Marcus (ID=72) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:39 PM)
For All Adcoms: What do you consider to be a significant GMAT score improvement? Above 50? Above 20?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:45 PM)
tg28 if all you are waiting for is the GMAT, you can send your application now. We will hold it until your GMAT arrives.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:53 PM)
Y-hope the map worked... The GMAT is one factor among many. We will certainly look for other strengths to balance a lower score. A score too low (and I don't know what too low is...) may be hard to balance.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:55 PM)
Charlotta, interviews are part of the big picture. they can help to answer questions that might not be addressed in your essays

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:44:57 PM)
Thanks Betsy. Is there someone in particular I should contact about setting up a visit?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:14 PM)
L - do your research, express your interest in your school specific essay, network with grads from the program in your city

ATLMBA (ID=73) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:16 PM)
?How many people applied last year through the consortium?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:18 PM)
Qiana- at UNC many of our MBA students are enrolled in Working Spanish (several levels). You also would be able to take classes at the undergrad school, which offers the full range of language courses.

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:19 PM)
Qiana, you can contact me directly at ekacizak@bus.wisc.edu

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:20 PM)
Thanks Betsy

Jeff Reid (ID=132) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:23 PM)
What is considered high on the GMAT? low?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:23 PM)
luis - one way is to contact the schools and make sure they know your interest - send a separate essay.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:41 PM)
?What is a good score improvement on the GMAT?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:52 PM)
Marcus - it is more the total score vs. the improvement

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:45:55 PM)
?Adcom, as someone who lives in very rural New Mexico, I am concerned with how not doing an interview is portrayed. Can you please shed some light on this for me?

Yrunga (ID=108) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:05 PM)
Thanks Jim_Indiana: ALSO, what three qualities/skills make an applicant a good match with Kelley?

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:14 PM)
? jim did u see my last question?

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:15 PM)
Betsy: would you mind if I contacted you as well, I'm in a similar position as Qiana

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:16 PM)
Betsy - -will do. That definitely sounds like something I'm interested in.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:17 PM)
Lion - you can always do a phone interview with a school (at least we have them and I think most do)

rebecca (ID=62) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:22 PM)
?do we send the separate essay through the consortium or to the school directly

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:27 PM)
steff, that would be great

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:37 PM)
Rebecca - to the school directly

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:37 PM)
Thanks, Kris

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:40 PM)
rebecca - you can send them to schools directly

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:50 PM)
?What seems to have been the most difficult of all the associated schools to get into?

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:46:57 PM)
What are some of the other benefits to being in the Consortium (aside from the fellowship)? I've heard about the job fair and the social opportunities- have I missed anything?

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:04 PM)
? Kris, there are no consortium alumni who attended UMBS living in Miami (as far as I can see in the consortium website.) Can I get the name's of some graduates who are not part of the consortium?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:08 PM)
chiguy- for sure. UNC admits applicants based on how competitive their applications are relative the other applicants in the pool.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:12 PM)
Hi Toure- Each consortium school gets an equal share of the "pie," money from Consortium corporate sponsors. Schools also contribute their own money to add more fellowships. We currently have 49 Consortium fellows (first and second years combined). The money from the consortium pays for about 6 or 7 of them. The balance are paid for by IU.

steff (ID=126) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:13 PM)
thank you!

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:22 PM)
ez, networking with other students across the US and employers

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:26 PM)
Thanks Sherry - if I take classes at the undergrad school, would those use up my electives?

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:26 PM)
Thanks, Barbara, but I'm still working on my essays, do you recommend me to apply as soon as possible, I mean, if I apply for the regular deadline, does that jeopardize my chances with consortium or with the Universities?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:27 PM)
Ez - the networking via the Consortium is unmatched - the orientation program is phenomenal

rrr (ID=110) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:44 PM)
Linda - I am an applicant with less than a years work experience, graduating almost a year and a half ago. I was recently laid off. Initially, I had trouble finding employment and currently the search has resumed. How will this be viewed by the Consortium and member schools.

kb (ID=70) (Dec 10, 2001 9:47:55 PM)
? Laurie, what factors led CMU to join the consortium? Is it a competitive process?

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:01 PM)
Ez... the CGSM's orientation program in the summer is fantastic!! I already had a dozen friends at NYU before I arrived!

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:06 PM)
? Barbara, is the fellowship just for tuition or does it include a stipend, too?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:14 PM)
tg28 no you don't compromise your position by submitting 1/15

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:14 PM)
I'm not with the Consortium so I'll let one of our guests respond directly.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:20 PM)
rrr - you will have to make a strong case on your leadership and what you have been able to achieve in this period of time

toure (ID=119) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:22 PM)
Thanks Jim!

ChiGuy (ID=123) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:25 PM)
Thanks Sherry.

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:26 PM)
thank you so much, Barbara

rrr (ID=110) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:27 PM)
ok

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:33 PM)
lion33 the fellowship is tuition and fees.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:37 PM)
Ayesha-e-mail me at jholmen@indiana.edu and I will check to see if we have the optional essay.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:42 PM)
ok no problem

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:45 PM)
Thanks-what's the orientation program like?

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:46 PM)
Thanks, Barbars

Breakmaster (ID=156) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:47 PM)
Question: Can I email my school-specific essays directly to the schools or do they have to be sent via email? Thanks.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:56 PM)
hi kb - we've wanted to be a member of the Consortium for a long time - it provides great opportunities for our students!

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:48:57 PM)
thanks @ jim

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:02 PM)
?Someone please answer the question on the lowest/Highest GMAT scores?

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:12 PM)
Charlotta, please repost.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:16 PM)
Breakmaster - for Michigan either email or regular mail is ok

colombiansupremo (ID=127) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:22 PM)
Barbara - what is the percentage of applicants admitted by their first choice school, who are awarded the fellowship?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:29 PM)
Yrunga-sorry for the late response. Three qualities: team player, motivated, focused.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:37 PM)
?What is the lowest GMAT score reported for a fellowship?

Yrunga (ID=108) (Dec 10, 2001 9:49:53 PM)
JIM: no worries, thank you

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:00 PM)
colombiasupremo we don't track that

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:03 PM)
?With the downturn in the economy, what impact has that had on the applications thus far?

Stephanie (ID=153) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:04 PM)
Barbara, I have been out of school for eight years. How will this be viewed by the Consortium and member schools?

Marcus (ID=72) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:07 PM)
Kris: I went to UMBS undergrad and Michigan if my first choice for my first choice. Given that the Consortium Essays are not specific, should I write an essay specifically for UMBS. Tell professor Afuah I said hello!

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:07 PM)
EZ...There is a job fair at the end...many people already had offers for summer internships before school even started. There were also several social activities, speakers, & panels.

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:21 PM)
Cool

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:23 PM)
Marcus - yes, please do, and I will

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:28 PM)
Sarah - thanks for your perspective. I didn't realize there was so much out of classroom commitments on time as well.

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:33 PM)
qiana- each school will be different. We allow students to apply 12 credit hours of elective courses outside the MBA Program toward the MBA Degree. Many students take more hours, however - they just don't count toward the MBA. Depends on how big a load you want to take.

ATLMBA (ID=73) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:46 PM)
?Barbara, how many people applied last year to the Consortium?

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:47 PM)
? Sherry - I visited UNC, interviewed there and have kept in touch with several students. What else can I do to show you my interest in KFBS?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:50:56 PM)
Charlotta - applications have increased this year

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:05 PM)
Stephanie- while our entering class has an average of 5 years, remember that means some have more, some have less. 8 years shouldn't be a problem.

Michelle Miller (ID=125) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:06 PM)
? Kris- I realize IMAP is an option for international experience, but how often do students study abroad for a semester or so. Is one program more popular than another? Any reasons for either?

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:12 PM)
Repost for AdComm - if a candidate does very well in the verbal part of the GMAT and English is his/her 2nd language is the TOEFL necessary?

dperry (ID=151) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:28 PM)
Hi Kris, I'd like to visit and interview on campus and have that serve as my consortium interview. do I need to do anything other than schedule the interview directly with UMBS?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:32 PM)
Stephanie it has no bearing on your application. The average age of our students is 27. The range is 21-39.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:37 PM)
Luis72, in your essays you can show how UNC supports your goals and is a match for your educational style.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:37 PM)
?will more awards be given due to the increased number of applicants, or does that mean more of a negative impact?

AY101 (ID=111) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:43 PM)
barbara when you say fees does that include mandatory computers or books?

Yrunga (ID=108) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:49 PM)
JIM and other Adcomm's: As far as fellowships go, do you make any distinction on the ethnicity of the applicant? Do you allot a certain number of fellowships for Hispanics, African-Americans and Native-Americans?

tonjiz (ID=137) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:50 PM)
What books or software is a good resource to prepare for the GMAT? I am taking it 1/4.

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:51:57 PM)
gabe, I asked for the same and the TOEFL is required by the Universities, not by the Consortium, so I took it

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:06 PM)
Michelle - you can currently choose from over 10 study abroad programs, but we also have William Davidson internships, Global project courses, etc. I think LBS is probably one of the most popular, but I don't know for sure

Breakmaster (ID=156) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:09 PM)
If there is someone from NYU and Carnegie Mellon: Can I send my school-specific essays directly to the schools??? These are the optional essays that are part of the Consortium application but must be sent directly to the school. Thanks Univ. of Mich. for your answer!

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:22 PM)
Yrunga - we do not have a distinction

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:26 PM)
tonjiz-I would recommend the official guide to the GMAT by ETS. Go to their web site

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:31 PM)
hi Breakmaster - you can send CMU essays to me at lstewart@andrew.cmu.edu

Breakmaster (ID=156) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:33 PM)
Correction: Can I send them via email?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:35 PM)
Gabe-check with each school-policies may vary. At Indiana, U.S. citizens and permanent residents are not required to take the TOEFL, even if English is their second language.

tonjiz (ID=137) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:43 PM)
thanks Charlotta

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:52:46 PM)
Thanks tg, Jim!

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:05 PM)
dperry - you can contact us on the web and arrange to join us for "your Day at Michigan" it includes a tour a class, etc

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:06 PM)
Any questions re: Wisconsin or NYU?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:11 PM)
charlotta- your question is not easy, nor will it be same answer for each school. Each school will admit candidates (including the CGSM applicants) whose GMAT scores cover a wide range. At UNC, we admitted last season a range from 530 to 800. Now, I'd be dishonest if I suggested there were many admits on that bottom end, but there were some. Several have enrolled and are performing well in our very competitive curriculum.

tg28 (ID=124) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:17 PM)
Gabe, NYU, Virginia and Michigan ask for the TOEFL

rico (ID=149) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:22 PM)
Sarah? If accepted to NYU I would be very interested in studying at ESADE in Barcelona for a semester. Do you know the level of language proficiency of those who have gone to a Spanish speaking university? Basically, do you have to speak as a native speaker to qualify?

Breakmaster (ID=156) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:27 PM)
Thanks Laurie.

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:34 PM)
tonjiz, I used ARCO...it found it very helpful practicing with software, it's very different from pen & paper. I think as long as the study materials have some kind of software it will provide you with enough material/preparation.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:35 PM)
Yrunga-while we like to have representation from all populations, we do not have set targets for numbers of fellowships by ethnicity

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:41 PM)
Sherry - may I contact you later with questions?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:41 PM)
you're welcome, Breakmaster :-)

luis72 (ID=63) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:45 PM)
? Laurie - can you provide me with a list of CMU alumni in the Miami area?

Stephanie (ID=153) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:46 PM)
Barbara, I fed-ex my application on Nov. 30. Will I still be considered for the early application process? Dec. 30th was on a Saturday.

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:53:54 PM)
AY101 that does not include computers or books. It includes any matriculation fees charged by the schools (i.e. activities fees, etc.)

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:00 PM)
sure Luis - send me email at lstewart@andrew.cmu.edu

craig (ID=97) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:07 PM)
?Is 53 too far outside the age range for a traditional MBA student?

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:11 PM)
Stephanie yes

Darryl (ID=117) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:13 PM)
This question is for the entire board. Will too much work experience weigh against you in any way?

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:28 PM)
stephanie- we enroll many students with 8 yrs or more work experience post undergrad. Your challenge is to show that you have progressed well in that time AND that you have very sound reasons for pausing now to get the MBA.

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:36 PM)
Wisc. & NYU question: Do you have classes related to African American or African studies?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:38 PM)
?I am having some difficulties with one of the essays. Is there anyone that I can speak to regarding this? Maybe someone that can look it over. I

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:43 PM)
Craig - it isn't traditional but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work. It will be up to you to tell your story.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:45 PM)
? NYU I will be visiting the school this coming Wednesday for a tour of the business school. how much time is allotted for the tour or does it depend on the group? the reason I am asking is becauseI would like to explore on my own, and I also want to meet with a few people at the school.

Stephanie (ID=153) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:47 PM)
Thank you.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:53 PM)
I know someone ;-)

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:56 PM)
About GMAT prep, I downloaded the ETS software and my GMAT score was the average of the 2 tests included in the software. Go to www.gmat.com and download powerprep it's free.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:57 PM)
Darryl, with more experience, you have to show more accomplishments/progress

Marcus (ID=72) (Dec 10, 2001 9:54:59 PM)
Adcom: Is it possible to get accepted and not be awarded a fellowship? Is it possible to be put on the waiting list?

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:07 PM)
Does a blown interview kill a CSGM application. I interviewed at a University after driving about 8 hours. I probably came off like off like Mr. Rogers after one too many cocktails.

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:12 PM)
Marcus - yes to both of those

Betsy_UWM_Adcom (ID=64) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:16 PM)
Q, we do outside of the school of business. because you have electives within the program you can take them outside the b-school

Breakmaster (ID=156) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:18 PM)
Is there a representative from NYU that can answer my question regarding sending my school-specific essay directly to the school via email?

kclotman (ID=91) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:20 PM)
? For Adcoms - What extra fees usually have to be paid before school begins? Buying all books? Laptop, etc.? When does financial aid usually kick in?

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:21 PM)
Linda, was that in regards to my essay question?

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:28 PM)
Yes Charlotta.

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:32 PM)
Luis- thanks for your interest. Just keep staying in touch with us. We love hearing from you. Feel free to contact me anytime at sherry_wallace@unc.edu.

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:43 PM)
Marcus-yes it is possible to be accepted and not awarded a fellowship

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:43 PM)
Can I get your e-mail address to discuss in further detail?

MSKWJ01 (ID=159) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:55 PM)
I am currently in the process of applying to MBA Schools through the CGSM, but I am becoming discouraged because a lot of the schools push the full time two year work experience requirement and I will only have two years by August of next year.

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:58 PM)
Charlotta, labraham@accepted.com .

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:55:58 PM)
kclotman - we try to get you funding by the first week or so, but you will need cash on hand for the first few weeks to get things set up

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:19 PM)
MSKW - it is more what you have done rather than just the years

ChiGuy (ID=123) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:22 PM)
Linda - Are you offering a discount to CGSM applicants?? :-)

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:23 PM)
kclotman - students are able to use their financial aid to purchase school laptops and books, etc

MSKWJ01 (ID=159) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:27 PM)
What are your suggestions Barbara?

7empty (ID=120) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:33 PM)
When doing an on-campus interview (e.g. Tuck), is it important to identify myself as a CGSM applicant?

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:34 PM)
Rico & Breakmaster, I do not know the answer to your questions, but if you send me an e-mail at sag251@stern.nyu.edu, I can make sure it gets to the right person.

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:56:48 PM)
Thanks, Linda. I will be in touch with you shortly (tomorrow). I appreciate the help!

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:02 PM)
? adcomms: some schools require the purchase of a laptop. if you already have a laptop, can you get a discount on the required software ?

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:02 PM)
ChiGuy, Accepted.com provides free advice and resources to all via the Web site. :-) No discount on that.

Breakmaster (ID=156) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:05 PM)
Thanks Sarah.

rico (ID=149) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:13 PM)
Sarah, thanks.

kclotman (ID=91) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:16 PM)
? Kris - How much do you usually recommend for school related expenses until fin aid is distributed?

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:19 PM)
mskwj - we count your experience up till the time you would join school

Sherry -UNC Admiss (ID=94) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:21 PM)
gabe-each school's TOEFL requirement may be diff. Check with school's individually. At UNC, you will need the TOEFL regardless of your GMAT if you did not complete a degree in a university that is located in a country where English is the official first language

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:30 PM)
?sarah I posted a question about NYU, am I still in your queue?

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:36 PM)
Ayesha - you can get your laptop configured by our Computing Services - I am not sure on the software question.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:43 PM)
ok thanks @ kris

Michelle Miller (ID=125) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:50 PM)
Kris - Thank you for answering a few questions. I will to contact you by e-mail to find out Darys information.

Qiana (ID=134) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:55 PM)
If any prospective MBA students want to network (especially those in Chicago) email me at Ndigo1@yahoo.com, I'd love to trade ideas with you! To all the adcomms: THANKS for all your feedback - I'll be contacting a lot of you soon with more questions... I have to go now.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:57 PM)
that answers my question @ kris

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:57:59 PM)
ayesha - there are some deals available for software for students

Kris_UMBS_AdCom (ID=101) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:03 PM)
Michelle - great.

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:08 PM)
thanks @ laurie!

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:24 PM)
Thanks Sherry.

Laurie_CMU_Adcom (ID=80) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:27 PM)
good luck, Qiana!

Floyd Houston (ID=152) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:30 PM)
Barbara, I submitted my application online prior to the Dec 1 deadline. However, my GMAT is not scheduled until Jan 4'02. Will my application not be reviewed until my GMAT scores are in, even though all recommendations, transcripts and essays are in. FEH

Lion33 (ID=98) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:31 PM)
?Sherry, what are the big things UNC is looking for from its applicants?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:39 PM)
Ayesha-the computer question is a bit more complicated at IU! Contact me directly...

Sarah_NYU_Student (ID=86) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:39 PM)
Ayesha...I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?

toure (ID=119) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:39 PM)
sarah- has it been extremely tough this year for landing a summer internship?

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:48 PM)
jim: you know that I will :)

Charlotta (ID=105) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:50 PM)
Thanks everyone! Linda and Sarah, I will be in touch!

Ayesha1908 (ID=65) (Dec 10, 2001 9:58:50 PM)
thanks!

Linda Abraham (ID=88) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:06 PM)
Sounds good Charlotta.

melanie (ID=67) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:17 PM)
Barbara? Who will inform us if we have been awarded a scholarship the CGSM or the School?

gabe (ID=121) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:18 PM)
When is the deadline to submit the optional school-specific essays?

Jim_Indiana_Adcom (ID=83) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:23 PM)
Floyd- your application is not complete, and can't be reviewed until we have a GMAT score.

barbara_cgsm (ID=109) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:35 PM)
msdwj01 I agree with Kris. If your work experience shows progressive responsibility and leadership ability, you should not be discouraged.

EzRawlins (ID=96) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:37 PM)
Last question for Sherry. The deadline for UNC application part one is coming up. What are the benefits to filing part one? Do you need GMAT scores to file this one?

Gerard E (ID=102) (Dec 10, 2001 9:59:42 PM)
? Jim_Indiana? Can we talk offline so that I can schedule a campus interview?
