Consultant Profile: Robbie Walker
As an Accepted consultant, I combine my love of good writing with the joy of helping you achieve your dreams. Writing thoughtful essays, whether in response to a specific question or the more general personal statement, requires singling out those incidents that best illuminate your experiences and capabilities and then choosing details that highlight your multi-faceted personality. Helping you tell your story to the schools of your choice is a challenge I welcome.
But now, let me briefly tell you my story. After graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in Political Science, I joined a consulting firm specializing in real estate finance and urban economic development. I also earned my MBA at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
When my Japanese husband's company asked if he'd be interested in joining their Asian operations, we readily accepted and moved our family to Tokyo. I spent three years managing a non-profit organization. Then, Simul Academy, a corporate training and translation company, offered me a position on their staff, and, intrigued by the opportunity to teach, I accepted. With my academic and career background in public policy and finance, I became a specialized teacher of English to Japanese diplomats and top-level corporate managers. At the same time, I began writing feature articles for Japanese and American publications.
My family and I moved back to America in the mid-1990s, and because I had come to love writing and teaching so much, I continued in these fields. I joined the faculty of a local college where I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) for many years. I also expanded my writing to include corporate reports, articles for trade publications and marketing copy for local businesses, concentrating on investment advisory service firms and real estate developers and consultants. At the same time, I explored a niche business assisting Japanese clients with their applications to graduate school programs in the U.S. and Europe. I enjoyed providing editing assistance for client essays and resumes, and, wanting to expand the scope of my admissions consulting services, joined Accepted in mid-2007. My clients now come from around the world and apply to a multitude of top programs, including business, law, LL.M., and public policy. I love receiving those e-mails telling me that they've been accepted at the school of their choice and are moving forward in their career.
