Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 11:59:08 AM)
Hello. My name is Linda Abraham. I am the founder of Accepted.com and the moderator of today’s chat.
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 11:59:37 AM)
First I want to welcome you all to Accepted.com’s MIT Sloan waitlist chat.
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 11:59:45 AM)
I also want to welcome Sloan’s Jen Burke, Associate Director and Waitlist Manager.
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 11:59:52 AM)
Thanks to everyone for joining.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:00:26 PM)
Linda, Thank you for hosting this today. This is a great opportunity for folks on the waitlist to learn more and ask specific questions... this really helps us!
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 12:00:36 PM)
You're most welcome, Jen.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:01:02 PM)
Let the questions begin....
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 12:01:43 PM)
Do you want to know about new developments in our lives?
ChrisM (Apr 12, 2007 12:02:18 PM)
Can you discuss some of the factors involved in deciding who should be taken off the waiting list?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:02:41 PM)
It is encouraged for waitlisted applicants to send us updates. We are interested in hearing about both professional and extra-curricular activities.
Bret Valerio (Apr 12, 2007 12:02:54 PM)
When is the last possible date to have an interview conducted for this year?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:04:25 PM)
ChrisM, those admitted off the waitlist are chosen based on a lot of factors. We look to admit people who can fill spots not taken by those initially admitted.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:04:43 PM)
Bret, interviews will continue throughout the summer.
Risi (Apr 12, 2007 12:04:51 PM)
What are the rules about accepting another school but withdrawing from them if we get accepted off of the MIT waitlist?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:05:40 PM)
Risi, we encourage you to make other plans. There are no guarantees with the waitlist.. As long as you notify the other school of your change in plans, it should be fine.
sloan09_hopeful (Apr 12, 2007 12:05:54 PM)
Business Week reported that 1/3 of wait listed candidates at Sloan were accepted last year. Do you expect the same rate of admittance this year? It has also been reported that MBA applications are way up this year, so I am wondering if that 33% is going to be much lower.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:07:05 PM)
Sloan09 hopeful, it's impossible for us to predict the % of offers we can make to the WL this year. Each year is different, as is the applicant pool, and that applicant pool's specific options. historically we always go to the wl, but each year the # of people we admit is very different.
Joan (Apr 12, 2007 12:07:16 PM)
What's the earliest folks on the waiting list would start to be contacted?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:07:55 PM)
Joan, the process has already begun. A small number were admitted off the WL already. And I anticipate the process to continue throughout the end of the summer.
omer (Apr 12, 2007 12:08:07 PM)
Can you describe the mechanism of the waiting list?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:09:46 PM)
Omer, the WL has a very diverse pool of applicants represented. There are no real "rules" to the WL. Which I understand creates a frustrating process for those of you on it. The bottom line is, we want to admit people off the waitlist, who will accept our offer.
Chris (Apr 12, 2007 12:10:00 PM)
How many people are currently on the list and on average how many normally are accepted into Sloan?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:11:15 PM)
Chris, currently there are close to 200 people on our WL. BUT that number is quickly dropping. As many people are admitted to other programs, they remove themselves from our WL. So, by May I anticipate the active WL to be about 100. On average we admit between 10 - 25 applicants each year off the wl.
mchou (Apr 12, 2007 12:11:26 PM)
Jen, does MIT Sloan welcome an additional letter of recommendation if it provides additional information. I submitted letters from my managers, but I feel maybe a peer recommendation could shed some new light? If so, do they just e-mail it to your office?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:12:11 PM)
mchou, yes, we do encourage submission of an additional letter, if it adds to your case. Although, we would put more weight on a letter from a superior, rather than a peer.
pixelvisions (Apr 12, 2007 12:12:21 PM)
Will the admissions committee contact candidates who may be able to address specific questions or shortcomings before admission decisions are made?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:13:34 PM)
pixelvisions, I'm not clear on your question? Are you asking if we will call people to clarify what we perceive to be weaknesses, prior to making a decision? if that is your question, the answer is no. There are many VERY strong applicants on our WL.
sloan09_hopeful (Apr 12, 2007 12:13:55 PM)
Should one expect any movement in the wait list before May? Do you ever convert waiting list status to rejection, or will the only notification be for acceptances?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:14:29 PM)
MIT Sloan is fortunate to have a strong applicant pool, and unfortunately there are not spots for all who qualify. Therefore the wl is very strong.
JP (Apr 12, 2007 12:14:53 PM)
Jen. If we are interested in visiting the Sloan campus again, can we setup the visit through the admissions department, or would you prefer we set it up through current students etc...?
Christian Wentzel (Apr 12, 2007 12:15:21 PM)
Jen, I found out the Ambassador program is over for now, but is it still possible to come visit? What are the best days to come?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:15:30 PM)
sloan09, at this time I do not anticipate any wl movement until mid-May. Current admits have until May 11 to accept our offer, so we probably won't be making more offers until after this date.
David Valladolid (Apr 12, 2007 12:15:56 PM)
What are the factors used to rank all candidates put on the waitlist? How can one move up in that rank?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:16:32 PM)
JP, our official visitor program has ended for the spring, as classes are only in session for another few weeks. You are still welcome to visit any day, you do not need to schedule a visit. Just stop in the admissions office to pick up a walk in packet, and you can visit a class on your own
NDS (Apr 12, 2007 12:16:38 PM)
I have read that you choose applicants from the waitlist regarding the profiles of students that have left a vacancy. How does affects this policy for international students? Do you consider en students profile where he comes from? (In some countries is less likely that someone don't take a place in MIT if accepted).
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:17:13 PM)
David, there is no rank of the wl. We're typically admitting people to fill a profile of someone who did not accept our initial offer
Chow H. Juei (Apr 12, 2007 12:17:25 PM)
Still regarding the waitlisted applicants updates, how do we send them and where to?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:18:49 PM)
NDS, you're correct. this does not make things more difficult for int'l students, for example, if someone from Italy declines our offer, we would look to find another int'l applicant to admit, not specifically someone from Italy.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:19:28 PM)
Chow, please send any updates to firstname.lastname@example.org or via hard copy to MIT Sloan MBA Admissions office 50 Memorial dr. ste 126 cambridge ma 02142
Alfredo Vieyra (Apr 12, 2007 12:20:44 PM)
Is there any problem with getting Financial Aid if you are placed on the Wait List and then accepted?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:21:52 PM)
christian, we're aware of the timeline for visas. We hope to admit int'l applicants with enough time to get a visa to join us in the fall
mrperson (Apr 12, 2007 12:22:00 PM)
What are the most useful documents we can submit? Would more outside recommendations help?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:22:13 PM)
Alfredo, for U.S. citizens, you'll still be eligible for federal aid, it's important to file your FAFSA now. All admits (no matter how late they are accepted) are eligible for the Citiassist loan, at any time. unfortunately most of the fellowships/scholarships will have already been awarded
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:23:01 PM)
mrperson, most useful is an update directly from you. Something brief, highlighting new project experience, new leadership roles, team experiences, etc.
Brendan (Apr 12, 2007 12:23:14 PM)
Hello Jennifer. Thanks for taking the time to talk with us today. I'm on the wait list of the KSG-Sloan dual degree program. Is this wait list considered separately from the MBA only wait list?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:23:31 PM)
Brendan, no, the waitlist for the dual degree is the same.
baba24 (Apr 12, 2007 12:23:40 PM)
Jen, is it possible to voluntarily to meet with you or visit the admissions office in conjunction with a Sloan visit? Thank you.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:25:57 PM)
baba24, I'm not able to promise that I can meet with you. It's not a fair process to those who cannot make it to campus. If you visit, you can stop by and ask if I'm available, if I'm not, you can always have your questions answered by someone else in the office.
sloan09_hopeful (Apr 12, 2007 12:25:58 PM)
If one's circumstances change (i.e. one's spouse has a job offer in another state), should that candidate contact the admissions office? Is there any way to accelerate a decision, one way or the other?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:26:20 PM)
sloan09, unfortunately not - there is no way to speed up the decision.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:27:21 PM)
Christian, please email the email@example.com. I receive these emails.
Venkat (Apr 12, 2007 12:27:36 PM)
Jen, What about wait list candidates who have not been interviewed? Will they be interviewed and are their chances of getting in lesser?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:28:36 PM)
venkat, the majority of people on the wl, have not been interviewed. At the time we conduct interviews, we have limited spots. therefore we are planning to conduct wl interviews throughout the summer. These are done by invitation only. An official timeline has not yet been decided.
Billy Pilgrim (Apr 12, 2007 12:29:35 PM)
Are waitlisted candidates ever admitted for the following MBA class?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:29:55 PM)
billy, waitlist candidates are rarely admitted for the following MBA class, but it has happened in the past
Howard Chung (Apr 12, 2007 12:30:02 PM)
Jen, we met at the MIT reception in LA last October. Are WL applicants less likely to receive financial aid?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:31:17 PM)
Howard, financial aid is need based, and only in the form of loans. As long as you file the FAFSA now, and include MIT's code (sorry I don't know what it is off hand, but it's on our wl website) you will still be eligible for federal aid. And all admits are eligible for the Citiassist loan
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:32:14 PM)
Christian, see above. Basically many on the wl have not been interviewed, and we do plan to invite wl'ers for interviews throughout the summer
Voké (Apr 12, 2007 12:32:16 PM)
Is an additional exploratory visit to Sloan helpful in the waitlist process?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:32:58 PM)
Voke, the visit is non-evaluative for our process, but it could help you create a better case of why MIT Sloan is the perfect fit for you
mrperson (Apr 12, 2007 12:33:23 PM)
In your opinion, what is the best way to show you will definitely go to MIT if accepted?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:33:41 PM)
mrperson, tell me in an email :-)
Christian Wentzel (Apr 12, 2007 12:33:55 PM)
For campus visits, are there any days you recommend (i.e. Monday vs. Friday)? Are there any special weekly social or academic events that are particularly beneficial to applicants?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:34:20 PM)
christian, Mon - Thur are best.
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 12:34:31 PM)
I would add mrperson, that you should also say briefly why it is your first choice.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:34:48 PM)
Waiting (Apr 12, 2007 12:35:04 PM)
Jen, do you prefer that waitlist candidates continue to check-in about their status, or would you rather we wait for Sloan to contact us? I don't want the admissions committee to feel that I'm disinterested by not contacting them.
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 12:35:12 PM)
you're welcome. :-)
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:36:18 PM)
Waiting, there's a fine line between being pro-active and being annoying. My advice is to send an update if you have something relevant to add. every other day is too much... every other week is better.
Ericaso (Apr 12, 2007 12:36:21 PM)
Jen, is it there a way for me to learn about the weaknesses in my application so that I know what additional documents to submit?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:36:46 PM)
ericaso, unfortunately we just don't have the capacity to do this. I'll add that typically applicants already know what their weaknesses are, so be proactive and try to correct them, ie; a low GMAT.
Trent Marsh (Apr 12, 2007 12:36:54 PM)
Jen, I know you mentioned that the KSG-Sloan waitlist is the same as the MBA waitlist. I applied to the E&I program - are E&I waitlisted candidates considered separately from non- E&I program waitlisted candidates?
amd07 (Apr 12, 2007 12:36:56 PM)
What are the chances of getting accepted off the wait list and also getting into the E&I program? Is that program full?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:37:30 PM)
trent - E&I are the same as well.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:37:52 PM)
amd07 - if you are admitted off the wl, you will be admitted to the E&I program as well
Voké (Apr 12, 2007 12:37:57 PM)
Jen, can you tell us some reasons why someone may be wait-listed?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:39:28 PM)
Voke, it's simple... there's more qualified candidates than we have spots for. The waitlist is an admissions committee's safety net. Often the strong applicants have several offers, therefore they may not choose MIT Sloan. If that's the case, we have a wl of strong people to pull from.
Bret Valerio (Apr 12, 2007 12:39:56 PM)
If we're not accepted off of the waitlist and reapply in the fall, is there any way that we can receive feedback on what we missed from our application the first time around?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:40:48 PM)
bret, no promises on feedback. We have a policy to not give feedback, but in some cases it does happen. If you are interviewed, you could contact your interviewer who might be willing to help you submit a stronger.
Daisuke Matsuzaka (Apr 12, 2007 12:40:57 PM)
Hi Jen, will people who won't be admitted be notified throughout the process, or all at the same time when everything is done?
NDS (Apr 12, 2007 12:42:13 PM)
Is a sign of a stronger application to have been interviewed before been placed in the wl? Thanks
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:42:14 PM)
Daisuke, nice name! We will "clean" the waitlist as time goes on. so those on the wl, will receive official decisions from us throughout the summer.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:43:28 PM)
NDS, just because you were interviewed already, does not mean you would rank higher than someone who was not interviewed yet. Interviews are done on a limited basis, we just don't have time to meet with everyone on the first go around.
J-Nick (Apr 12, 2007 12:43:40 PM)
Jen, when selecting someone from the WL, are you looking for someone with a similar professional background than the person who has left a vacancy?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:44:15 PM)
j-nick, it depends... sorry to be vague, but there are a lot of factors to consider. So no, not necessarily, but sometimes.
JP (Apr 12, 2007 12:44:23 PM)
Jen, excuse me for inferring. Does that mean that wait-listed candidates that have been interviewed have a reasonably good chance of being accepted?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:45:10 PM)
jp, no, those who have already been interviewed do not have an advantage.
Minty (Apr 12, 2007 12:45:17 PM)
Typically how many people on the waitlist remove themselves from the waitlist?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:45:48 PM)
minty, a lot remove themselves from the waitlist. We expect our wl to be cut by half within the next few weeks.
Voké (Apr 12, 2007 12:45:53 PM)
Are waitlisted applicants also/still considered for the Fellowships for which they indicated interests? For example the Forte Foundations fellowship..
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:46:50 PM)
Voke, the majority of fellowships/scholarships have already been awarded. So, if someone who was given an award decides not to accept it, sometimes we can make that offer to someone on the wl, but this rarely happens.
Bret Valerio (Apr 12, 2007 12:47:01 PM)
Jen, you already somewhat touched on this, but do re-applicants from the waitlist have a higher or lower hurdle for admission?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:47:36 PM)
Bret, typically re-applicants are very successful.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:48:20 PM)
Susan, most likely we will not admit people after orientation. The idea is to have a full class before orientation begins (well before).
Venkat (Apr 12, 2007 12:48:27 PM)
Could opting for the E&I program be a reason for placement in the waitlist?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:48:48 PM)
Venkat, no, the E&I program did not cause anyone to be put on the wl.
Christopher (Apr 12, 2007 12:48:50 PM)
Jen, can you describe how the waitlist process may differ for KSG students aspiring to do the joint degree?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:49:32 PM)
christopher, it might be best for us to talk off line, as your questions are specific. You can email me directly.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:50:26 PM)
mitsoon, July is about the latest we can admit int'l students off the wl.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:51:24 PM)
baba24, no wl interview invites have gone out yet. Interviews will continue throughout the summer...
ChrisM (Apr 12, 2007 12:51:53 PM)
Jen - Is contacting your interviewer typically considered annoying?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:52:39 PM)
ChrisM, I think it's fine, but don't be discouraged if they're not able to help you now. It's a VERY busy time for us.
Ericaso (Apr 12, 2007 12:52:44 PM)
If I want to reapply to Sloan, should I do so for next year or for the year after?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:53:48 PM)
ericaso, this is for you to decide. If you re-apply for entrance in fall 2008, you'll be considered a "re-applicant" and we will read your old app along with your new. If you re-apply for fall 2009, you will not be considered a "re-app" and we'll only look at your new app. All of this is detailed on our website.
mrperson (Apr 12, 2007 12:53:52 PM)
For younger candidates ( JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:54:33 PM)
mrperson, nothing different from the rest of the pool. To reiterate, the best thing to send in, is something directly from you.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:55:43 PM)
Because people drop from our class all the time, in May we anticipate having the most opportunity, but as the summer continues people who have accepted our offer, might get admitted off another school's wl and change their plans, therefore we have a spot to fill.
sloan09_hopeful (Apr 12, 2007 12:55:56 PM)
Is the proportion of waiting list candidates weighted toward those who have not interviewed because most interviewed candidates are accepted, or because most interview candidates are either accepted/rejected (not wait listed)?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:56:58 PM)
sloan09, because there's just not enough time/room to interview everyone during the regular process.
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:57:11 PM)
Venkat (Apr 12, 2007 12:57:12 PM)
Jen, Since the first round admit acceptance deadline has passed, has it created vacancies for WL candidates? If so, will the WL candidates be considered straightaway or will you be consolidating all vacancies after May 12 and then considering WL candidates?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:57:57 PM)
Venkat, the round 1 accept deadline passed, but those vacancies were mostly filled by round 2 candidates.
JP (Apr 12, 2007 12:58:02 PM)
Jen, thanks for doing this with us. Does enrolling in a summer course at a local school improve an applicant's chance of being accepted off of the waitlist? If it addresses a weakness in the application?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:58:14 PM)
HSquare (Apr 12, 2007 12:58:18 PM)
Jen, for those who have yet to be interviewed, and will be away for all or part of the summer, how long after you request an interview would the applicant have to schedule an appointment?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:59:08 PM)
hsquare, we try to be flexible, but if you are going to be away for a significant amount of time, let us know so we can plan accordingly. typically once invited for an interview, we'd like to meet with you as soon as possible.
Leonardo Calenda (Apr 12, 2007 12:59:15 PM)
Hi Jen, I am not sure if someone previously asked this question because I was unable to join the chat right when it started, but what is the approximately number of candidates currently on the waitlist?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 12:59:52 PM)
leonardy, currently just under 200, but this number will drastically decrease over the next few weeks. by mid-may we expect to have less than 100
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 1:00:01 PM)
Jen has graciously agreed to extend the chat. We still have questions in queue, but if you want to post additional questions Jen will continue to answer them for a few more minutes.
ChrisM (Apr 12, 2007 1:00:12 PM)
mrperson (Apr 12, 2007 1:00:30 PM)
If you were waitlisted after being interviewed, is this a sign that your interview was weak? If so, how does one best correct that?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:00:58 PM)
I'm happy to address questions/concerns. We are very appreciative of your patience. I know that being on the Waitlist can sometimes be torture :)
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:01:49 PM)
mrperson, no, if your interview was weak, you probably wouldn't have been put on the wl. This just means that there are more strong candidates than we have space for.
Adam (Apr 12, 2007 1:02:05 PM)
Jen, I recognize that each applicant is unique, but in your experience, what steps taken by waitlisted candidates tend to make the most positive impression on the Admissions Committee?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:03:25 PM)
Adam, we want to admit people who feel as though MIT Sloan is the only MBA program for them. you can convey this by doing research, talking to alums and current students. Make a case for why MIT Sloan is the perfect fit for you.
415 (Apr 12, 2007 1:03:27 PM)
When communicating with Sloan, is it to one's advantage to specifically lay out what one's options are (i.e. - I'm in at X, I'm on the wl at Y") - or is your decision to admit not affected at all by other circumstances?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:03:58 PM)
415, you do not need to tell us what your other options are.
Bret Valerio (Apr 12, 2007 1:04:11 PM)
Last question, I promise. Do R1 decliner's spots get filled from the R2 applicant pool or does that transfer over to the waitlist?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:05:03 PM)
Bret, those spots not accepted by r1 admits, have already been filled by r2 admits
Antonio Cruzat (Apr 12, 2007 1:05:09 PM)
Jen: What date do you consider the last one to send any additional materials?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:05:22 PM)
antonio, the end of august. :)
baba24 (Apr 12, 2007 1:05:25 PM)
If we are fortunate enough to be admitted off the waitlist - how hard will it be to find housing in the area so late in the game?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:06:13 PM)
baba24, finding housing on campus will be tough, but there are plenty of options off campus. The Boston/Cambridge area caters to students... you won't have trouble.
Ericaso (Apr 12, 2007 1:06:15 PM)
Jen, if I will be in Hong Kong for a month in June, and if I get invited to an interview, can I be interviewed in Hong Kong instead?
baba24 (Apr 12, 2007 1:06:34 PM)
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:06:41 PM)
Ericaso, most likely not. but we could possibly do a phone interview.
Minty (Apr 12, 2007 1:06:44 PM)
How does the ability or inability of the waitlisted candidate to reapply for the following year affect the WL decision?

Minty, I'm not sure what you're asking? I'm assuming that everyone on the wl, could re-apply next year.

If we interviewed in the admissions office, what's the best way to get in touch with our interviewer?
NB1234 (Apr 12, 2007 1:08:27 PM)
Jen, I may have missed this, but will waitlist candidates who were previously interviewed be asked to interview again?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:08:57 PM)
sloanwannabe, email them directly if you have their name, otherwise, you can email the firstname.lastname@example.org address and someone will get back to you with their info
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:09:20 PM)
nb1234, no, if you've already been interviewed, you will not need to interview again.

After the 5 stages of grief passed, denial, acceptance, etc, most of us are still in the bargaining phase ;) being on the waitlist is great, it's better than being rejected! :)
Bret Valerio (Apr 12, 2007 1:09:53 PM)
Linda, you made me lie about it being my last question and she already answered that question :)
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 1:10:06 PM)
Last call for questions. Even from Bret...:-)

I am a round 1 waitlistee (and a late joiner to this chat). I have not sent an update letter as I don't feel that there have been any significant changes in my profile. However, Sloan is still my top choice. Would it be beneficial to send a letter expressing my continued interest alone?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:10:35 PM)
Bret, that's right.... you're still in the running, and we always go to the waitlist!
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:11:07 PM)
Hopeful, yes, and I'm sure there's been something new that's happened since October.... :)

NB1234 (Apr 12, 2007 1:11:37 PM)
Jen, you say the waitlist will reduce from less than 200 to less than 100 by mid May. Can you say what factors lead to that reduction? Acceptances? Weed out by Ad Comm?
JenBurkeMIT (Apr 12, 2007 1:12:14 PM)
nb1234, those on the wl typically make other plans and remove themselves. We do not plan to weed out the wl before May.

And Thank you Jen and good luck to everyone, I hope to see many of you in the fall. Thanks Linda for hosting. Accepted.com has really helped during my application.
Linda Abraham (Apr 12, 2007 1:12:31 PM)
Thank you again all for participating this evening. Special thanks to Jen for taking the time to virtually meet with you, provide this information, and make this process as transparent and humane as possible.
