Consultant Profile: Dr. Philippe Barr

With a Ph.D. from New York University and more than 10 years of comprehensive experience in higher education, I have a deep passion for education and a talent for helping students put their best foot forward.

As a former Assistant Professor in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at UNC Chapel Hill, I know the skills needed to navigate the demands of graduate school. I’m also an expert in narratives by trade. Having directed several masters’ thesis and doctoral dissertations, I have a knack for assisting students in coming up with compelling narratives. I love helping students sharpen their writing skills, communicate their ideas, and share experiences more effectively.

My experience as Assistant Director of MBA Admissions at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School has provided me with deep insight into the expectations of top-tier MBA programs. I have improved the academic profile and diversity of the entering class by assessing student files and conducting admissions interviews with local and international prospective students. Having read thousands of applications and interviewed hundreds of applicants, I can help you discover and present your competitive advantage on paper and in-person.

I see my role as an admission consultant for Accepted as helping students define their goals and providing them with a personalized roadmap to academic and professional success. I look forward to working with you!

Dr. Barr was more than an admission consultant. He was a mentor, friend, and confidant throughout the PhD admissions process. Above all, he gave excellent advice on every aspect of the application. He informed me how to develop a statement of purpose that was personalized, relevant, and cogently constructed. He walked me through school selection emphasizing choosing programs that were the best fit for me. We even did a mock interview that more than prepared me for my actual interview. Lastly, he celebrated with me when I accepted my five-year guaranteed funding offer from Vanderbilt University. During an admission cycle that was full of uncertainty, I felt more confident and knowledgeable. All of this, I credit to Dr. Barr. Thanks to Accepted, I happily announced to my family and friends that I was indeed accepted in one of my top choice universities.   Warmly, BR
