Consultant Profile: Dr. Valerie Wherley

It is my goal to listen to every client, hear your story, and assist you in submitting your most competitive application.

My work with pre-med and pre-health students includes:

  • Former Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Career Development, William Beaumont School of Medicine
  • Former Director of Pre-Health Advisement, Sacred Heart University
  • Former Director of the Pre-Health Postbac Certificate Program, Sacred Heart University

As Director of Pre-Health Advisement, I annually advised approximately 300 undergraduate students on any of the following pre-health tracks: pre-med, pre-PA, pre-vet, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, pre-PT, pre-OT, pre-accelerated nursing, and pre-optometry. I am trained in all aspects of: AMCAS, AACOMAS, CASPA, VMCAS, AADSAS, PTCAS, OTCAS, NursingCAS, PharmCAS, and OptomCAS. I have also advised successful applicants pursuing master’s degrees in Exercise Science, Biomedical Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Athletic Training, Public Health, and Applied Nutrition.

As Director of the Pre-Health Postbac Certificate Program, my work involved interviewing candidates, resume/CV review, and final admissions decisions. During this time, I developed expertise in working with:

  • First-time applicants
  • Re-applicants
  • Career changers (Postbac)
  • Academic enhancers (Postbac)
  • URM applicants (Underrepresented Minority)
  • Applicants with learning accommodations

At the William Beaumont School of Medicine, I was a member of the “Dean’s Team”, where I worked directly with the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the Associate Dean of Clinical Curriculum, and the Assistant Dean of Admissions. I worked with Year 4 students, in both residency application review/critique and mock-interview preparation.

Having over 20 years of experience in both higher education and medical education, I offer a cultivated skill set in supporting clients who are interested in a holistic portfolio review, navigating the application process, personal statement editing, interview preparation, school selection, and selecting/securing letters of recommendation.

In my non-work time, I like to focus on wellness. To that end, I am a certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), a certified Personal Trainer (CPT), and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). I believe in a healthy work/life balance and enjoy being active with my family and my labradoodle, Walter.
