Consultant Profile: Karin Ash
With 30 years of career/admissions experience at four universities, including Cornell’s Johnson School, Karin facilitated students’ entry into the world’s best companies. As a member of the adcom, she also evaluated applications. She knows what schools and employers seek.
What impact did you have in your last job and what assets and value will you bring to our organization? In other words, why should we hire you?
Those are the key questions company recruiters seek answers to, and as you can imagine, they are not very different from what admissions directors want to know from prospective MBAs. I can help you prepare effective essays and applications as well as prepare for admissions interviews by coaching you on how to answer those questions.
Having spent my entire career in higher education career management and admissions including stints as Director of Career Services for Cornell University, Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, and the Johnson School of Management, I have met with thousands of recruiters seeking to hire the best students from top schools. I worked closely with the admissions staff, participating in the candidate decision-making sessions, ensuring that those who enter the school are also prime candidates for employers.
My Ph.D. dissertation focused on what factors were significant reasons for students to stay or leave the first job taken after graduate school. I can help you think through why you want an MBA, how it will help you shape your future for the next two years as well as your career once you graduate. What should you seek from an MBA School? What internships will you be able to obtain that will help you make post-graduate decisions?
While my education was in the northeast, I worked in universities in Florida, California and New York and with students across all college majors. I was a Board Officer of the MBA Career Services Council and had the opportunity to travel to many schools nationally and internationally, gaining familiarity with other top business schools.
Preparing admissions applications is hard work and job searching is certainly no easier. Karin has a PhD in Educational Psychology and Organizational Behavior from Cornell University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the University of Connecticut.
